In the lead up to what has become an annual event for Cassper Nyovest, his claims that pursuing the dream to fill up FNB Stadium had made him broke fuelled speculation about just how much it cost him to put the show together.
Speaking to DJ Sbu during his breakfast show on Massiv Metro ahead of the show, Nyovest broke down just a few of the costs he had incurred in planning #FillUpFNB.
Among those costs were the fee he had to put down to book the stadium for his preferred date, additional costs including insurance and venue security as well as a budget to book supporting acts and all that was before he even put together a marketing budget for the show.
“This is what it kinda takes… You go to the stadium and you fight for a date, before anything. You fight for a date with Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and then they say, ‘okay, here’s a date, we’re gonna need R900,000’ and you’re like ‘okay… there’s the R900,000 then after that there’s contracts of ‘okay, now if you damage the grass… insurance… you have to pay a security company… Everything comes up to like almost R2 Million.”
Nyovest also coughed up a pretty penny for stage design which involved flying the specialist into Johannesburg to work on it.
“The stage this year is R5.2 Million, just to build the stage…” began Nyovest, before adding “And you still have to fly these people that are building the stage, the whole team, they’re called Formative… They’re based in Cape Town. Some of the dudes are from London but they are set-up here...”
As mentioned above, the supporting acts also cost quite a bit, which Nyovest estimated at about R500,000 collectively and that doesn’t even cover all the acts as some reportedly pitched in for free. Among those who participated in #FIllUpFNB for free are young rapper A-Reece and celebrity choreographer, Somizi Mhlongo.

Despite his alleged brokeness and his “struggle” to secure sponsors, Nyovest still managed to beat Linkin Park, Justin Bieber and Rihanna by bringing in a 68,000 strong crowd.
Nyovest has now set his sights on Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium which has a capacity of 85,000.
