The power utility warns that the system has been constrained since last night, and will continue to be so until Sunday. Dreaded load shedding appears to be back, with Stage 1 likely from 2pm today, and power rotation likely to last until the end of the weekend. Once again the utility needs to replenish diesel and water reserves. The risk for Stage 1, the least severe stage, with 1,000MW needing to be shed, will continue until 10pm. Please check your local schedule to see how you may be affected. #POWERALERT 1 Thursday, 28 February 2019 There's an increased risk of Stage 1 rotational loadshedding from 2pm to 10pm today, with the risk of loadshedding remaining untilp end of the weekend @CityPowerJhb @City_Ekurhuleni @CityTshwane @CityofCT @ewnupdates @SABCNewsOnline pic.twitter.com/WyH7WBuq1k — Eskom Hld SOC Ltd (@Eskom_SA) February 28, 2019

David Mabuza's take on load-shedding leaves Mzansi in shock

Deputy President David Mabuza. Deputy president David Mabuza's take on the electricity crisis left many on Twitter in disbelief. "The shortage of electricity is a sign of growth." Mabuza made this remark in parliament on Wednesday while responding to questions on youth unemployment and the fourth industrial revolution. "Yesterday‚ electricity was only given to a few people. Today‚ electricity is given to millions of people ... this economy is growing and therefore we are bound to have challenges. These challenges are very positive because they propel our growth‚" he said. Mabuza’s comments coincided with Eskom’s announcement on Wednesday that there was a possibility of load-shedding on Thursday.
